The Pan-Cyprus Student Coordination Committee (PSEM) sent a letter to the Minister of Education of Cyprus with a complaint. The letter addresses unacceptable practices being carried out by school vehicle drivers. As it turns out, many buses are overcrowded, causing drivers to leave children on the road.
The letter specifically states:
Following complaints from parents and students, it has come to our attention that in many cases, school bus drivers are not allowing students to board them due to overcrowding. Such incidents are particularly common in the Nicosia area. We believe that you should immediately address this issue.
Today, September 13, we received a complaint that a driver on the route from Agia Varvara to Idali High School did not allow a student to board the bus due to overcrowding, telling him to wait for the next bus passing through the area. The bus passed but did not stop. The guardians were not informed and the student was exposed to all sorts of dangers, as in all other reported cases.
The state must take measures to ensure safety in school transport. Incidents that put students at risk cannot be tolerated. The responsibility does not lie with the driver, but with those in charge of school transport.
Can't they predict that there are routes that will be crowded in order to change the routes? How long will the phenomenon of school transport continue, which is of little interest to the relevant ministries?
