Fourth arrest for large drug haul

Police have now made a total of four arrests in connection with a large drug seizure that occurred in Limassol on August 21. The latest arrest involved a 21-year-old Limassol resident who was apprehended on Monday night at Paphos airport upon his return to Cyprus from abroad.

The drugs were discovered in a car parked in an open area in Limassol on the night of August 21. Officers seized approximately 10 kilograms of cannabis, 60 kilograms of ‘king gummies’ (sweets suspected to contain narcotics), about half a kilogram of cannabis resin, 200 ecstasy tablets, 150 grams of cocaine, and other small quantities of drugs.

The first arrest was made on the same day, involving a 38-year-old, who, after a police check, was taken into custody to facilitate the investigation. Further inquiries led to the arrest of a 21-year-old on August 22, followed by the arrest of a 23-year-old on August 29.

The second 21-year-old suspect, whose photo and personal details had been released by the police on August 29, was detained on Monday night under a court warrant after being identified at Paphos airport.

The Limassol district drug squad Ykan is currently further investigating the case.
