Frederick University has decided to declare the distinguished Professor of Economics at Columbia University, Jeffrey D. Sachs, an honorary doctorate at the University. Prof. Sachs will take place on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 7:00 pm, at the Tassos Papadopoulos event hall in Nicosia.
Frederick University honors Professor Sachs for his significant contribution to worldwide sustainable development and effective interventions to address complex challenges of mankind.
The event will be welcomed by the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nikos Christodoulides. The co -chair of the Cyprus Network for Sustainable Development, Professor Costas Papanikolas, will also address the address. The honored will be made by the Rector of Frederick University, Professor George Dimosthenous.
The ceremony will be closed with the honor of the honored and a speech entitled "Sustainable Development in the Age of Village".
After the end of the ceremony, the public will have the opportunity to talk to St. Sachs.

Jeffrey D. Sachs is Professor of Finance and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University where he directed the Earth Institute from 2002 to 2016. He is president of the World Solving Network for Sustainable Development (Un Sustainable Development Solutions Network - SDSN) UN broadband for sustainable development. He has been a special adviser to three UN Secretaries and today is a lawyer for Sustainable Development Objectives (SDGS) under the current Secretary -General, António Guterres. Before joining Columbia University, Sachs taught for more than twenty years at Harvard University. He has been twice as one of the 100 leaders with the most influential worldwide leaders and was ranked by The Economist as one of the top three in -life economists with the most influence.
