In Cyprus, a bill is again discussed, which will allow some suspects not in the preliminary imprisonment chamber, but at home - under the “supervision” of an electronic bracelet. The initiator of the development of the law was the Minister of Justice Marios Harziotis. In his opinion, this will help reduce the number of prisoners and make a system of justice more humane.
First, the text of the bill will be sent
to the legal service
for verification for compliance with national and international laws, then for approval
Cabinet of Ministers
And
parliament
.
The court will receive the right to decide: to leave a suspect in prison before the start of litigation or allow him to be at home under electronic supervision. The bracelet will record its location and report if it leaves the perimeter. The police will control where the suspect is located and make sure that he does not violate the conditions.
Suspects of serious crimes - for example, murders, drug trafficking or sexual violence - will not be able to count on house arrest with the bracelet. Brought by less serious crimes who do not pose a threat to society and are not hidden from the court, will be able to stay at home.
