This Sunday, November 10th, there will be a demonstration in Limassol demanding an end to racist attacks on delivery workers and racist rhetoric from the state and media.
“In recent months, attacks on migrant delivery workers have become an almost daily occurrence,” human rights activists said.
The demonstration, entitled "Uniting Cypriots and Migrant Workers", will take place at 16:00 at the Molos Amphitheatre.
“Criminals do not act alone: the government, police, media, education and political parties contribute to the strengthening of racist hatred. We must not become accustomed to racist violence; we must not get used to barbarism. We must protect the migrant communities of Cyprus, who are becoming scapegoats for social tensions,” the victims said in their appeal.
These attacks are not only racist, but also undermine worker safety in the workplace. Worker safety should be considered an important part of the agreement between employer and employee and must be respected.
The organizers of the demonstration are: Αfrican LGBTIQ Cyprus, Anatropi, Afoa, Diem25, Generation for Change, Genocide-Free Cyprus, Hade, Kisa, Mission Solidarity Cyprus, New left (Nea diethinistiki aristera), Initiative against fascist threats, Queer Collective, Spirithkia, United for Palestine (Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos).
