According to a press release from the US Navy, the Harpers Ferry-class amphibious assault ship USS Oak Hill has returned to the port of Limassol.
This is the ship's second scheduled visit to the city in recent months.
On board are Marines from the 24th Expeditionary Force (MEU), who will return to the ship after two weeks of joint training with the Cypriot Armed Forces. Oak Hill's commanding officer, Lieutenant Commander Jason Nowell, noted the importance of the visit:
“Our return to Cyprus provides us with the opportunity to once again host the 24th Expeditionary Force following exercises with the Cypriots, strengthening our bilateral ties.”
He added that the crew were enthusiastic about returning to Limassol: “The sailors and marines on board are very happy to be here again.”
The stopover also gives the team the opportunity to explore Limassol after a previous 10-day visit in September during routine maintenance on the ship.
