"I have no intention of re -election or re -nomination for president. I am only interested in improving the prestige of our country. Turkey is changing. The world is changing. We live in a new era. Do you think we can achieve something in such a rapidly changing world with a constitution created during a coup in old Turkey that still maintains a coup mentality? " The Turkish president said.
"Turkey can no longer proceed with a constitution written by coup d'etat. We need a constitution proposed by citizens, not by coup d'etat, "said Anadolu news agency, citing Erdogan's statements.
The Turkish leader added that the ruling Chp party has begun to draft a new constitution and also called on the opposition to participate in the process.
'There is no need for early elections'
"Let us form committees and create a political constitution together as soon as possible to present it to our people. There is no reason not to do this, "Erdogan noted. According to him, the ruling party could quickly form committees to work on the new basic law.
Referring to opposition calls for early elections, Erdogan said that "there is no need" for either early or intermediate parliamentary elections.
"If we look at the current situation in Parliament, there are no reasons that require intermediate elections. Two years ago, the country elected its representatives to parliament for a five -year term, "he commented.
'We have a honest relationship with the US'
