Concert celebrates 200 years of Johann Strauss

2025 marks the Bicentenary of the birth of the great Johann Strauss, an incredibly successful composer, best known for his Viennese waltzes and operettas which earned him the undisputed title of the Waltz King and became the symbol of Vienna.

Celebrating two hundred years of dazzling, spellbinding music are two concerts next month by the astonishing Vienna Schoenbrunn Palace Orchestra – Strauss Virtuosi. Travelling to Cyprus for two concerts in mid-February are top-class musicians who will perform the very best of Strauss live. Highlights from the operettas and the most enchanting Melodies of The Waltz King, will sound. Audiences can expect famous pieces such as The Blue Danube, an iconic symbol of Vienna and of Johann Strauss.

The concerts on February 15 at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre and on February 16 at Limassol’s Pattihio Municipal Theatre will feature a unique repertoire. Arias and overtures from the masterpieces, such as the most popular operetta Die Fledermaus (The Bat) which has become a staple of the repertoire at the Vienna State Opera performed on New Year’s Eve.

The Gypsy Baron, A Night in Venice and Viennese Blood will also sound, performed by remarkable Vienna Opera soloists representing the charm, wit and beauty of these iconic operettas and the style of 19th century Viennese music at its best.

The two evenings of musical brilliance enrich the island’s cultural calendar this February with The Johann Strauss Operetta Gala bringing some of the glitz and glamour of Imperial Golden Age Vienna. Tickets are now on sale.
