Rates of blood infections caused by drug-resistant bacteria are expected to rise significantly across Europe over the next five years, mainly due to an aging population.
The study analyzed data from blood tests related to susceptibility to bacterial infections in 29 European countries, in the period 2010-2019.
The increases appear to be stronger in men in six of the eight bacteria studied.
Furthermore, it is estimated that they will be particularly intense in the older age groups, while they will stabilize or decrease in the younger ones.
