Limassol 2030 and the Andreas Pittas Art Characterization Laboratories (APAC Labs) of the Cyprus Institute, in collaboration with the Municipality of Limassol, are organizing the exhibition "Invisible Gaze: Discovering an Unknown Work of Titian", which will be inaugurated by the Mayor of Limassol, and . Giannis Armevtis on January 24, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., at Papadaki Warehouses.
The exhibition brings to light an unknown work by Titian, hidden under the famous painting Ecce Homo (1570) (Behold the Man), through the application of advanced technology and the scientific methods of the Andreas Pittas Art Characterization Laboratories (APAC Labs). The hidden work, the portrait of a man, was revealed using state-of-the-art tools, with the results of this process being used by artist and dean of the School of Fine Arts in Athens, Erato Hadjisavva, to recreate the painting. This pioneering process for the sector managed to highlight the inherent connection between art and science, offering ground for new visual approaches.
Cultural heritage, science, technology and modern visual practices coexist in the exhibition Invisible Sight: this is a rare opportunity for the public to discover the technical analysis of the painting, to understand the relationship between the original work and its modern re-creation (1570 & 2024) , but also to see up close how technology can reveal centuries-old visual secrets.
