Marinos Sizopoulos clarified his decision to leave the presidency of EDEK, stressing that it was not a resignation, but a "surrender of the presidency", according to the provisions of the Articles of Association.
In his statements on state radio, Marinos Sizopoulos said that "it is a decision to deliver the Presidency because of the Articles of Association", noting that he had formed the framework, which provides for two five -year terms.

He also referred to his career saying that "I entered politics 52 years ago, I came in clean and I remain crystal clear today." He also said that when he took over the leadership of the party, EDEK was over -indebted, and today he is delivering a debt -free party, financial obligations or legal issues.
As for the next day, he avoided naming any person as his successor, appealing to party members to leave personal ambitions and fight unity. "Let's stay away from the ego and protect the EDEK. This battle must be fought with intensity and passion, without unnecessary controversy, "he said.
