The Tourism Cares initiative announced that, on the occasion of World Tourism Day, 2.3 tonnes of waste was removed from nature through a collective effort to clean coastal and public spaces.
According to the initiative in a statement, more than 75 tourism businesses and organizations from all over Cyprus contributed to the venture, with active involvement and over 1,500 staff and 750 hotel visitors.
It is noted that this year's issue of World Tourism Day, "tourism and sustainable transformation", stressing that tourism is not only about economic growth, but also responsibility for the environment, society and future generations.
The Tourism Cares initiative said it is meeting the 17 UN Sustainable Development Objectives, with particular emphasis on responsible consumption, protecting life on land and sea, as well as the power of partnerships to achieve these goals. The initiative is part of the project Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic Free - Destination Zero Waste in Cyprus and Greece, implemented in collaboration with the Tui Care Foundation, CSTI and Tui.
The event was under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, with its active participation and with the support of the environmental and prosperity of the animals, the announcement concludes.
