The MITOS Performing Arts Center announces an Open Call for participation in the artistic residency program, theYard.Residency.26, inviting creators and artistic groups to respond with proposals around the thematic "words that inhabit the city", for the final configuration of the 2026 program.
What is theYard.Residency
The annual institution of theYard.Residency has been operating since 2011 based in the Xydadiko art space in Limassol, which functions as a safer space, a safer yard to test, create and meet, to host and present. With the performing body as its central axis, theYard supports inter-artistic and interdisciplinary collaborations. It is a program that develops co-productions with creators and groups from Cyprus and collaborations with abroad, and that runs during each year. It is a dynamic platform for free artistic expression, experimentation and reflection, exchange and mobility. It enhances the dialogue on the issues of multiple narratives, active relationship with the city, participation and democratization.
Theme and Rationale of theYard.Residency.26
The organization invites proposals around the general theme of MITOS for 2026 "words that inhabit the city" and the rationale below:
The Limassol of the last decades is transforming at rates that many times exceed our ability to perceive it. Building booms, population shifts, new economic structures, rising housing prices, displacement of communities and an ever-increasing sense of urban pressure make up a city that seems to be rewriting itself with violent 'development'. This disturbance is not only visible; it is physical and mental. It permeates the daily life of the inhabitants, it changes the way we move, meet, remember, imagine. How are the daily routes, noises, gaps, loss, integration, conflict registered? And how can we—through art—decode these layers. Hospitality focuses on understanding the relationship between the individual and the urban space and capturing it through personal, collective or participatory practices.
