Spring is one of the most pleasant seasons in Cyprus. Bright greenery pleases the eye, and flowering plants cause a sea of emotions from admiration to reverence. Small, with a height of 2-3 meters, trees covered with large yellow balls attract attention.
They are widespread everywhere, giving the landscape the unique juiciness of colors. Due to external similarities, many, especially tourists, take these plants for mimosa. However, this is not entirely true. In fact, this is acacia thick -flowered (or gold).
The familiar name of this plant (Greek ακακία) has Greek roots. “What” means “bad”, and the prefix “a” gives this word the opposite meaning - “not bad”. It turns out that the Greeks called acacia - a good tree.
It is believed that Australia is the birthplace of Acacia Gold, where it began to cultivate it around the middle of the 19th century, gradually spreading to other countries and continents, including the Mediterranean region. In Cyprus, acacia grows mainly chaotic, and has the ability to prevent soil erosion. That is why the plant is specially planted along roads and high -speed tracks.
In Cyprus, golden acacia is not torn to create bouquets and is not sold in stores. However, it is known that in Australia, boomerangs were made from its trunks - one of the oldest military and hunting guns in the history of mankind, which is a real art!
