Compania Flamenca Filippa presents “Daibar Masal,” an innovative dance-theatre performance never before presented in Cyprus. The work revives the story of the “Witches of the Four Lanterns” of Limassol, a forgotten story of our cultural heritage, revealing the contradictions and prejudices of Cypriot society towards women.
Through flamenco, contemporary dance, acting, interactivity and the atmosphere emitted by the mansions where the performance will take place, the performance brings to light the stories of these women who refused to submit to the social restrictions of the Ottoman regime and later during British colonial rule, showcasing their strength and independence. The performance pays tribute to the women who were labeled as “witches” because of their resistance, giving voice to their ghosts and revealing a true aspect of our history.
The presentation of the work “Daibar Masal” invites the audience to discover the silent resistance and unseen aspects of history, shedding light on an era that remains a mystery to this day.
The performances are held under the auspices of the Spanish Embassy in Cyprus and the Cervantes Institute. Major sponsor Aphentrica Marine Insurance Brokers.
