The 16-year-old wanted by the Police for the fatal traffic accident, with the victim of 18-year-old Iulia Michaela Vasile, from Romania, which occurred late Wednesday afternoon, has been identified and arrested.
According to the Police, the minor alleged to be the driver of the stolen vehicle was located and arrested. The 16-year-old driver of the vehicle is being investigated for the offenses of causing death by negligence, careless driving, driving without a license, and leaving the scene of a traffic collision without rendering assistance.
At the same time, the 20-year-old passenger of the vehicle, who also left the scene, is still being sought.
Earlier today, the Larnaca District Court today issued an 8-day detention order against the 18-year-old who was with the unfortunate Iulia Michaela in the back seat. The youth was arrested in connection with an investigation into car theft and conspiracy to commit a felony, which was involved in last night's fatal road collision.
Referring to the circumstances, the spokesperson of the Larnaca Police stated that, from the examinations so far, it appears that a saloon car, in which the unfortunate 18-year-old was a passenger along with 3 other persons, was heading from the roundabout near the old GSZ to the traffic lights of Faneromeni on Artemis Avenue, deviated from his course to the left and successively hit a traffic sign and two trees where he stopped.
It is recalled that the vehicle in which the four persons were riding was stolen and the owner declared the theft a few hours before the fatal collision.
