On Friday, November 29, Defense Minister Vassilis Palmas reported that “special forces recruits are fully prepared to respond to any situation and meet the expectations placed on them.”
He made the announcement at a Green Beret ceremony and emphasized that the recruits have undergone the rigorous training required for the National Guard's elite Special Forces unit.
The minister wished the cadets “successful and productive service,” noting that the green beret symbolizes excellence, courage and commitment to the high values necessary for service.
“In the military, and especially in special forces, teamwork is not just a concept, but a way of life and a tool to accomplish our mission,” Palmas emphasized.
He urged the new commandos to serve with faith and devotion and be ready for any challenge. The Minister thanked the officers and instructors who passed on their knowledge to the cadets and provided all the necessary resources.
Chief of the National Guard, Lt. Gen. Georgios Tsitsikostas, said the awarding of the Green Berets symbolizes the "successful completion of complex training and the acceptance of serious responsibility."
“National Guard commandos and special forces are the pride of our Army,” he said.
According to him, high mental and physical endurance distinguishes soldiers who join the ranks of the elite - “those who at all times put the interests of their country above their own.”
Certificates of commendation were presented to two mothers of three children, all of whom enlisted in the military.
As part of the events, the special forces demonstrated their skills, including martial arts, rock climbing and rappelling from a 30-meter tower.
