Water supply remained low as the weather affected mainly coastal areas.
In order for rainwater to fill water reservoirs, it must fall in mountainous areas and be of sufficient duration and level to fill the streams and rivers that flow into the reservoirs.
Farmers are experiencing difficulties
The situation is especially difficult for farmers because the amount of water produced by desalination does not meet their irrigation needs.
The dams are only a quarter full
The total volume of reservoirs in Cyprus is 290 million cubic meters. They are currently 73.6 million or 25.3% full.
The Southern Pipeline reservoirs (Kouris, Kalavasos, Lefkara, Dipotamos, Germasogeia, Arminou, Polemidia and Achna) with a total capacity of 189.4 million cubic meters of water are 24% full.
During the same period last year, they were 47.1% full.
One of the reservoirs has almost become shallow
The Visakia reservoir has practically become shallow; the water there is only 4.4% of the volume. The situation is equally bad at the reservoirs of Akhna (9.6%), Kalopanagiotis (10.2%), Argaki (13.2%), and Xyliatos (13.8%).
The situation with water reserves was somewhat better in the Lefkara reservoir (48.1%).
All other tanks are less than 32% full. The leaders are Cannaviu (32.4%) and Asprokremos (30.2%).
Kouris, the largest reservoir in Cyprus, now holds 26.2 million cubic meters of water, or 22.8% of the volume.
